weekend wrap up 03.30.08

Lesson Topic:
Jr. Hi ~Loser - Pontius Pilate
Sr. Hi ~All Out War - Shoes of Peace
Attendance: Above Average
'Fun Factor': Above average: Veritcal Twister. this was alot of fun. more about community building than anything else. of course it got interesting when we changed left and right foots for left and right ear and really interesting when we changed to left foot = your "bum" and right foot = nose. actually had someone with the bum, and left and right hands. much fun.

Music: Excellent! the team is stepping up each week...nice rolling intros on all the songs...well done!

Volunteer Involvement: Average
Lesson Quality: Above Average
Length of Lesson: 25 minutes each.
Jr. High - good conversation about not going with the crowd. used it as a transition to our next series for jr hi on evolution and intelligent design. watched a cool promo piece from Ben Stein on his new movie EXPELLED!
Lots of interest on this one.
Sr. High - great conversation about having peace and about walking with God. its interesting we hit this one again as the theme of "peace" was the most popular in the last series. offered the FIX acronym: Filter the noise in your life - Investigate for truth - X out the enemies of peace (where the X is really letting Jesus replace our fear, anxiety, anger with his peace). good stuff.

weekend wrap-up 03.16.08

Lesson Topic:
Jr. Hi ~Storyline
Sr. Hi ~All Out War - Breastplate of Righteousness
Attendance: Above Average
'Fun Factor': Above average: banana poke, blindfolded banana poke and banana face-off (adam going solo - that was fun!)
Volunteer Involvement: Average

Lesson Quality: Above Average
Length of Lesson: 25 minutes each.
Student Response: Above Average
We were back in the youthspace this weekend...FINALLY. Although there's still much to do, we had fun. Of course there was several gremlins of sorts running through the technology (probably just dust and some wayward youngsters pushing a button or two that they shouldn't have!) but it worked.
Adam was a good sport during the jr hi time when he was invited to face off in a banana eating contest with mitch and then after the blindfolds were applied mitch sat down we we cheered Adam on for him to find out he was chowing down on his on. lots of laughter. I also learned ~almost the hard way~ that the new polyed floors are extreme slippery when you've got smooched banana on your shoes! Fortunately Rod, one of our adult leaders has a great servants heart and cleaned the mess up properly.
For jr. high we walked through a discussion of the great Storyline. talking about the prophecies of the character of who Jesus is and what that means for us. I had several videos that I had been saving from ys that were excellent to help see it in perspective. we talked about holy week and what that means.
For sr. high we learned some great trivia about that favorite Easter time candy - peeps. and then Hagg walked us through some heavy understanding on righteousness...a perfect way to start what we call Holy Week. Hagg and i both noticed that there seemed to be a lot more energy in the room this week. may have been just the fact we were back in the old/new space. we also had a few new visitors. i knew the one young person. had walked with them in another context a while back. they are doing really well. funny how small the world really is.

blizzard '08-no the.evolution sunday - 030908

when the snow plows get stuck...well that's probably a good sign that you should find a good book and crawl up in a big chair next to the fire and enjoy. so yep, we're canceling for this week 030908 and we'll be back at it next week. oh yeah...hagg is teaching so you won't want to miss it...he's always alot of fun. how about sharing a few comments and even photos of how you spent the blizzard of '08... btw, there was a 2 foot drift at the west doors...funs stuff for jimmy and his trusty snowblower.

Music: acoustic...EXCELLENT
Lesson Quality: Above Average

we met again in the lower level of the youth building. this should be the last week as the stage is now done. the acoustic stuff is kinda of cool. you can actually hear who's singing. somewhere in the middle of the sr high time parker yells....THERE'S A BAT! sure enough...after a few screams and some scurring parker the brave steps up and grabs the little rascal...either he was sleeping or confused or just plain hungry (the bat that is...but parker grabbed it, stopped at the door for a photo op and out the door he went. i'm not sure but it could have been the same one i bumped into about a month ago in the attic. fun stuff. we finally got to use the video drama our friends in ms. emily's class at central christian in kidron. helped to convey the point of why truth matters. you can watch it here...
