the future...re: the internet and technology

In an entertaining, insightful and sometimes tongue-in-cheek presentation, GoPets founder and CEO Erik Bethke has looked forward five years. Here are his 20 predictions. They might not all come to pass, but you’ll do well to be prepared…very interesting stuff

INTERNET USE
1. The number of Internet users in the world will increase from 1.1 billion in 2007 to 4.1 billion in 2012.
2. A lot of these will come from India which will wire up the entire sub-continent to 2mb broadband, convert the entire telecommunications industry over to VOIP with a flat rate of just $5 a month for all net access including unlimited voice calls across the country.
3. Everyone will follow India’s lead. All cities of more than 500,000 worldwide will effectively be 100% broadband. VOIP will dominate voice traffic, but the last major market to fall will be the US. Locally adjusted prices for net access including all domestic and international VOIP calls will be for a fixed monthly service fee of about $9.95 to $19.95 a month
4. Almost every country with rapidly deployed broadband connectivity has a young demographic with 25% of population under the age of 20. These include massive population areas such as China, Indonesia, India and Brazil.
PIRACY AND REVENUES
5. Traditional movie DVD, music CDs, and single-player console DVDs will fall 75% in 2012 relative to 1992 in the same markets. For the billions of young consumers in the new markets, purchase of intellectual products on media is effectively zero.
6. But revenues will come from services. Rentals, streaming, downloads, friend channels. Companies will have moved from a product focus to a service focus.
THE LIVING ROOM
7. What does the living room look like? All TV is on a PC box. The channels dedicated to communicating with pals are dominant. User-interface will be gesture-based. Revenue models are based on individual micro-purchases of content or of lots of low-cost subscriptions to content or channels. go here for the entire list

God Is with Us

these are the words from my friend john eldredge for today. given the turn of the week i think they are a great reminder to our part in the larger Story.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their forefathers to give them. Be strong and very courageous . . . Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go. (Josh. 1:6–7, 9)

Joshua knew what it was to be afraid. For years he had been second in command, Moses’ right-hand man. But now it was his turn to lead. The children of Israel weren’t just going to waltz in and pick up the Promised Land like a quart of milk; they were going to have to fight for it. And Moses was not going with them. If Joshua was completely confident about the situation, why would God have had to tell him over and over and over again not to be afraid? In fact, God gives him a special word of encouragement: “As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Josh. 1:5). How was God “with Moses”? As a mighty warrior. Remember the plagues? Remember all those Egyptian soldiers drowned with their horses and chariots out there in the Red Sea? It was after that display of God’s strength that the people of Israel sang, “The LORD is a warrior; the LORD is his name” (Ex. 15:3). God fought for Moses and for Israel; then he covenanted to Joshua to do the same, and they took down Jericho and every other enemy.

life hurts...God heals

Please take some time to be in prayer for those touched by today's tragic automobile accident which claimed the lives of two area students: Samantha Bohland and Elizabeth Borts, and injured Lindsay Williams. Please pray the students involved, their families, the school, and the entire Loudonville community. These events affect so many - and so deeply. Please ask our Father to provide healing, comfort, rest, peace, compassion, strength and love that only He can deliver.

edit: 050507 @ 1416hrs: The community prayer vigil, scheduled for 8:45pm this evening (Saturday, May 5)at the Christian Community Center on Mt. Vernon Avenue, HAS BEEN MOVED, to the auditorium of the Budd School.

a question to answer

What has brought you life today? this is a better question than a typical greeting of "how are you?" although it forces the answer and perhaps even the asker...not to miss anything.
